China will build Asia’s largest stem cell technology laboratory in its push to increase its stake in the competitive sector.
Health Minister Chen Zhu said there was huge potential for China to grow in this new field, it was reported.

Stem cell technology uses master cells in the body to create new cells. Medical researchers hope these new cells can be used to fight diseases and heal injuries.
“The stem cell and regenerative medicine sector is one of China’s new high-tech biological sectors with the strongest development potential,” Chen said during the launch of the project in eastern Jiangsu province on Tuesday, according to Hong Kong newspaper Ta Kung Pao.

Researchers cure mice with damaged spines using human iPS cells

A team at Keio University has used stem cells to cure mice whose hind legs were paralyzed due to spinal cord damage, the researchers reported Wednesday at a Tokyo symposium.
The team transplanted neural stem cells grown from human iPS cells.

Team leader Hideyuki Okano, a physiology professor at Keio, said it is the first time in the world in which the curative effects of “induced pluripotent stem cells,” or iPS cells, have been confirmed.
Currently, there is no effective treatment for spinal nerve damage and treatment using iPS cells gives hope of a cure.

“It is valuable that treatment using human iPS cells has proved effective. We want to apply (the results) in a clinical setting as soon as possible,” Okano said.
The team generated neural stem cells, which will grow into nerve cells, from human iPS cells produced with a technique developed by Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University.

The Republic of San Marino will clamp down on agencies, which they claim are offering unauthorized stem cell therapies. With a resolution voted on this morning, the government has decided to deal with the issue with two pieces of legislation. One will institute an ethics and bioethics committee, which will deal with ethical problems that may emerge with advancements in research and the development of new possible clinical applications.

A Richmond, Utah dog struggling for mobility is getting a new leash on life, courtesy of a new stem cell treatment for canines.
It’s not embryonic cells, but the dog’s own that are used in the treatment. North Logan vet Dr. James Israelsen of the Mountain View Veterinary Health Clinic performed the procedure on “Coty.”
Coty with Miller’s wife, Diane Bush.

“We have to harvest some fat from them to isolate the stem cells. And in her case, she’s a thin dog, so we actually harvested a little bit of abdominal fat just from the front of her abdominal cavity,” he explained.
Coty’s owner, Dan Miller, says it was hard to watch his Husky - once capable of 40-mile runs – lose mobility.
“Painkillers never really seemed to make a difference, at least in her stride, the limp in her stride,” Miller said.

China looks to expand stake in stem cell technology

China will build Asia’s biggest base to develop uses for stem cell medical technology, which the health minister described as having huge potential for development, a Hong Kong newspaper reported on Wednesday.

Stem cell techniques use the body’s master cells to create new cells that medical researchers hope can be used to fight diseases and heal injuries. Chinese Health Minister Chen Zhu said his country could become a leader in finding uses for the technology.

“The stem cell and regenerative medicine sector is one of China’s new high-tech biological sectors with the strongest development potential,” Chen said in a message marking the launch of the project in eastern Jiangsu province on Tuesday, according to the the Ta Kung Pao, a mainland-run Hong Kong paper.

“Accelerating the development of this sector will be important for lifting people’s standard of living and health.”

Stem Cell Research and Therapy for Cardiomyopathy

Adult Stem Cell research has performed another miracle and it is fitting that it is a Reverend who has been helped this time for his dilated cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Reverend Dan Jackson, of Colorado has reported that his ejection fraction has more than doubled after a stem cell treatment using his own Adult Stem Cells.

When Dan’s dilated cardiomyopathy caused his ejection fraction to drop to 21% and into congestive heart failure, he knew he was in trouble. His son Duke took to the internet to find help.

Vescell Adult Stem Cells for Heart Disease

That was when he found Vescell Adult Stem Cells, by Theravitae. Theravitae uses the patient’s own stem cells to treat heart disease and peripheral artery disease. However, money was an issue. Duke helped take care of that by having multiple fundraisers to help fund the stem cell treatment.

Dan and his wife traveled to Thailand in November for his stem cell therapy in which he had his own Adult Stem Cells injected into his heart muscle.
